Jens Franke is an artist based in Berlin.
A lot can be learned about the current and future intentions of our society through form and design of our surrounding. Based on this interest texts, photographic series, exhibitions and films have been made and were shown at the following institutions and festivals: Los Angeles Filmforum, Arch+ Salon, AFFR Rotterdam, Kasseler Dokfest, International Short Film Festival Hamburg, Deichtorhallen Hamburg, Maximiliansforum Munich, Bundeskunsthalle Bonn.
Together with the architects Marius Helten and Leonard Wertgen he started the group Film Based Research using film as a research tool to understand our built environment in all its diversity and contradictions. The films of this collaboration were made in Ahmedabad, at the Goethe Institute in Rotterdam as well as in Seoul and were shown in the Japanese Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2018 and at the Alliance Francaise in Rotterdam.
In 2021/2022 Jens taught at the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Studies in Weimar, Professorship Design and Housing as part of a teaching assignment. In 2015 he received the Arbeitsstipendium from the city of Hamburg. 2011-2014 he was a scholarship holder of the Deutsche Studienstiftung and completed his studies at HFBK Hamburg with Thomas Demand and Jeanne Faust.
He also works on commissioned projects.
